star wars - What did the public at large know about the assassination attempt on Palpatine and how he survived it?

I mean, for the people of the galaxy, Palpatine was just a politician past his middle ages. How could this man have survived against four Jedi Council members in his office while “unarmed,” say that the attempt “left him scarred and deformed,” and people believe in this? Answer The short answer is that we don't know. Certainly the Emperor had his own guards and clone trooper escorts but beyond the pronouncement that the Jedi had attempted to assassinate him, there's no explanation of what the general public were told about the event other than the Emperor had dueled with the Jedi and somehow overcame them, albeit at the cost of being injured. Note that the overwhelming majority of the public had little or no understanding of the powers of the average Jedi and might think that his success was odd, but not necessarily realise quite how drastically unlikely it was that a lone, unarmed non-force-user could kill three armed Jedi. From Tarkin There were many stories about what had...

Do observers revert completely back to normal human form when the implanted technology is removed from their brains? (Fringe universe)

As shown in season 5, where September(Donald)'s implant is removed, he regains hair, emotions, compassion. But if the the implant makes permanent changes to the brain as is told to Peter when he inserts the same implant into his brain, how does September's brain revert back to normal? Transcript:The human kind mentions this in Act 3 where Walter tells Peter that "WALTER: Are you also aware that the changes will soon be permanent? And if that happens, there's nothing I can do to get you back." My question is, If the change is permanent, then how does September transform to Donald? Answer In "The Boy Must Live," when September is describing what happened to him, he says: As punishment, they removed my device. Now, I’m no longer able to move through time or do the things that I was able to do. They experimented on me. They called it biological reversion. Now, I am no different from you. That is, turning him back into an ordinary human wasn't just ...

harry potter - Will a Phoenix Eventually Die a Natural Death?

We obviously see Fawkes consumed by fire and then reborn from the ashes in Chamber of Secrets . If a Phoenix lives a natural life (i.e. isn't killed by something) will it continue to burn and be reborn infinitely, or will the Phoenix eventually die from natural causes (i.e old age, etc)? Answer It does not appear that Phoenixes are immortal in Potterverse: The phoenix lives to an immense age as it can regenerate, bursting into flames when its body begins to fail and rising again from the ashes as a chick. Phoenix song is magical; it is reputed to increase the courage of the pure of heart and to strike fear into the hearts of the impure. Phoenix tears have powerful healing properties. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - page 32 - Scholastic Books I figure 6 weeks is long enough to wait for someone else to look this up, as per the comment I left for DVK .

the lord of the rings - Why would Glorfindel or another high elf draw Mordor's attention but the Istari don't?

Elrond proclaims that if he had the elves of old at his disposal, that it would do nothing but arouse the power of Mordor. Gandalf seems to claim the same thing about Glorfindel (will find the quote soon, hopefully), which comes to my point: why would a high elf (or Glorfindel, who could apparently veil his power like an Istari) arouse Sauron and a wizard wouldn't. Is there any explanation in the books for this?

story identification - Movie about sleepwalking people repairing an alien spaceship

I saw part of a movie on TV back in the late 1970's about a young couple who are traveling through a small town when they have a car wreck. All of the townspeople are yawning and tired all the time. I think it turns out that aliens are using the people at night to repair their spaceship. Answer This is " Night Slaves ". IMDB didn't have enough plot details, but Movie Mistakes has a pretty good plot synopsis in one of their "what's this movie" questions. " Question: I'm trying to find the NAME of an old (ABC?) TV movie, circa 1970's, likely mid 1970's. All I remember is the (basic) plot AND the final shot. PLOT: the main character (Andrew Prine?) has been in accident (?), or was hurt in the military and he has a plate in his head or some sort of surgery was done to his brain. Something is "odd" about the new town he moves into and the main character thinks the Sheriff / Police Chief is controlling the people and might even b...

star wars - Why did R2-D2 have this item?

My apologies for the vague title, in the interests of avoiding spoilers. In The Force Awakens, a large part of the plot revolves around the part map that BB-8 had on a memory stick. The First Order have the rest of the map, and, as it turns out, so does R2-D2. Is there any explanation as to why the latter has it, or how he obtained it? Or are there any upcoming comics or novelisations that may answer the question? Also relevant: What made R2-D2 activate? Answer R2-D2 downloaded the map back in A New Hope , but didn't realise it at the time. There's an article by Entertainment Weekly which recounts a post-screening Q&A with Abrams and co-writers Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt. It explains how R2-D2 came to have part of the star map: The story group’s thinking went back to the 1977 original movie, when R2-D2 accessed the Empire’s mainframe as the heroes searched for the captured Princess Leia. “We had the idea about R2 plugging into the information base of the Death Sta...
