story identification - Fantasy movie with lizardmen coming out of the ground

I am looking for a fantastic movie from the 70's, or 80's, maybe early 90's.

Various groups are sent on a search for an artifact; I think it was a sword. There is one scene I can remember quite clear: A group of riders is stopped by some kind of lizardmen coming out of the ground in front of them where they have been hiding in the middle of the path.
Another scene plays in some sort of cave with fog on the ground.

Prince Colwyn is found and nursed by Ynyr, the Old One. Ynyr tells him the Beast can be defeated with the "Glaive", an ancient, magical, five-pointed throwing weapon. So we know that the money comes directly from the trainer that just lost, and not some third-party committee or sponsor. But how is this done? It can be easy seeing the random trainers who challenge you along the way wanting to wager and then, after admitting defeat, sticking to their word and handing over their hard-earned pokebucks.
